5 Deadly Sins of Leadership

El liderazgo no es tan fácil como parece. Estar a la vanguardia de la multitud que te hace un blanco instantáneo. Las tentaciones son numerosos y pueden ser abrumadores. Usted no tiene que buscar para ellos; ellos vendrán directamente a su puerta y si no se da ningún margen,  se encontrarán su camino. Estar de pie en la cima de la montaña puede hacer pensar que son invencibles. Sin embargo, demasiados líderes en la cima del éxito están cayendo debido a errores tontos.

Más énfasis tiene que ser colocado en evitar estas irregularidades, que pueden abreviar éxito.

1) LUJURIA - La batalla comienza en la mente. Usted es lo que usted alimenta a sí mismo. La fruta prohibida puede tener un sabor dulce, pero tiene consecuencias amargas. La disciplina y el autocontrol son cruciales. Hoy no se puede recoger el periódico sin leer de algún político, figura pública o prominentes de la sociedad sucumbir a este vicio. Acariciando la lujuria erosionará su razonamiento. No puedo decir lo suficiente "pensar antes de actuar". ¿Es realmente vale la pena? ¿Se puede jugar con fuego y no quemarse? Si es demasiado bueno para ser verdad, entonces probablemente lo es. Algunos pagan abruptamente más que otros.

2) Orgullo - El ego se debe ir. No se trata de usted. Construir un equipo fuerte y rodearse de personas inteligentes, apasionadas y altamente competentes. El desarrollo de habilidades de liderazgo es un proyecto de vida. Es demasiado fácil, como líder, pensar que tiene que ser el que lo sabe todo. Los grandes líderes reconocen que necesitan, para seguir aprendiendo. Además, tratar a todos con respeto en todo momento ya sean empleados, clientes, proveedores o socios. Sé humilde. El más humilde es el que permanece,  y los más subordinados serían motivados a compartir sus sugerencias y recomendaciones con Usted. Mientras mayor sea su éxito, más necesitar mantenerse en contacto con las opiniones y perspectivas frescas de retroalimentación honesta.

3) PEREZA - Deshacerse de complacencia. Abraza el Cambio. Sea adaptable. Necesidades de los consumidores y el mercado están en constante evolución. El campo de juego mundial se ha estabilizado. Como resultado de la aceleración de la tecnología continua, el cambio es rápido, inevitable e imparable. Escuche lo que sus clientes y empleados están diciendo y volver a la mesa de dibujo. Recuerdo que una vez hacer una recomendación a un jefe y el dijo: "gracias, pero no gracias". "Esta es la forma en la que siempre hemos hecho las cosas y vamos a seguir para hacerlo de esta manera."

4) La Codicia y la Deshonestidad van de la mano. Reputación, integridad y credibilidad son todo. Su reputación, ya sea bueno o malo, se extenderá más rápido que un video viral en YouTube. Una vez perdido es extremadamente difícil de recuperar. Manténgase alejado a pellizcar la golosina, porque en poco tiempo, tendrá a manos llenas. A menudo digo "falta de honradez es como cavar un hoyo profundo de ti mismo, nunca se puede controlar la profundidad de las consecuencias". Hace muchos años, cuando yo era muy joven, me robé un aperitivo en la tienda del pueblo y mi madre me dio un buen azote. Nunca podré olvidar sus palabras. "No debes tocar lo que no es tuyo!" Esas palabras están incrustados en mi forma de pensar. Incluso si usted no está atrapado, que tendrían que perder la tranquilidad ya que tienes que estar constantemente mirando por encima de su hombro.

5) ENVIDIA - Luchas internas y lucha por el poder. Si usted no controla sus emociones, ellos te controlarán. La envidia es como una vid que consume y puede llevar a la ira, el resentimiento y la amargura. Puede reducir gente racionales a un comportamiento demente. Eliga vivir más allá de sus emociones.

Leadership is not as easy as it seems. Being at the forefront of the multitude makes you an instant target. The temptations are numerous and can be overwhelming. You don’t have to search for them; they will come straight to your doorstep and if any leeway is given, will find their way in. Standing on the mountaintop can make one think they are invincible. However, too many leaders at the pinnacle of success are falling due to foolish mistakes.

More emphasis needs to be placed on avoiding these improprieties, which can abbreviate success.

1) LUST - The battle begins in the mind. You are what you feed yourself. Forbidden fruit may taste sweet but it has bitter consequences. Discipline and self-control are crucial. Today you can’t pick up the newspaper without reading of some politician, public or prominent figure of society succumbing to this vice. Cherishing lust will erode your reasoning. I can’t say this enough ”think before you act”. Is it really worth it? Can you play with fire and not get burned? If it’s too good to be true, then it probably is. Some pay steeply more than others.

2) PRIDE - The ego must go. It’s not about you. Build a strong team and surround yourself with smart, passionate and highly competent people. Developing leadership skills is a lifetime project. It’s too easy, as a leader, to feel like you have to be the one who knows everything. Great leaders recognize that they need to keep learning. Additionally, treat everyone with respectat all times whether they are employees, customers, suppliers, or partners. Be humble. The more humble you remain, the more subordinates would be motivated to share their suggestions and recommendations with you.The greater your success, the more you need to stay in touch with fresh opinions and perspectives and welcome honest feedback.

3) SLOTH - Get rid of Complacency. Embrace Change. Be adaptable. Consumer needs and the market place are ever evolving. The global playing field has leveled. As a result of continuous technology acceleration, the change is rapid, inevitable and unstoppable. Listen to what your customers and employees are saying and go back to the drawing board. I remember once making a recommendation to a boss and being told thanks but no thanks. “This is how we have always done things and we will continue to do it this way.”

4) GREED and Dishonesty go hand in hand. Reputation, Integrity and Credibility are everything. Your reputation, whether good or bad, will spread faster than a viral video on YouTube. Once lost it is extremely difficult to regain. Keep pinching the cookie and, before long, you will be grabbing by the handful. I often say “dishonesty is like digging a deep hole for yourself, you can never control the depth of the consequences”. Many years ago, when I was very young, I stole a snack from the village shop and my mother gave me a good spanking. I can never forget her words. “You must not touch what is not yours!” Those words are embedded in my mindset. Even if you are not caught, you will be forfeiting peace of mind as you have to be constantly looking over your shoulder.

5) ENVY - Executive infighting and power struggle. If you don’t control your emotions, they will control you. Envy is like a consuming vine and can lead to anger, resentment and bitterness. It can reduce once rational people to insane behaviour. Chose to live beyond your emotions.
